Do you know the causes of acne? If you do,
chances are you have the edge to fight this widespread medical
condition which affects almost 60 million people in the United States
alone. When you know what’s causing your acne, you will be able to do
the precautionary measures in order to eradicate the skin disorder
called acne.
Causes of Acne
Hormones
are one of the most common causes of acne. The sex hormone called
androgen is very active during puberty. It is important to note that
the majority of those who have acne are adolescents. This is because
hormones are most active during Adolescence.
The hormone androgen stimulates the
secretion of sebum or the natural oil of the skin. When the sebum mixes
with bacteria, it induces the clogging of the follicle, trapping the
oil and bacteria inside. This results in the swelling of the affected
area of the skin which eventually leads to acne.
Stress,
though not the primary cause of acne, may also be a culprit for the
skin disorder called acne. Stress medicines like cortisol may
exacerbate the acne problem. Cortisol stimulates the production of
sebum, which may mix with bacteria, and thus result in acne.
Oily or Heavy Make-Up is
not necessarily a direct cause of acne. The make-up that we use plus
the oil contained in it contributes to the acne problem or may cause
acne. It is because make up can clog the pores of the skin which may
also result in acne break up.

An
Over use of Steroids and Medications
can also cause acne problem. It is noted earlier that hormones can
cause acne. Steroids are substances which were derived from the hormone
testosterone or androgen, which induces the over secretion of oil.
This may lead to acne. Also, certain medications can cause acne.

Acne can be
genetic
in the family and severe acne cases known as Cystic Acne frequently
come from heredity. That’s true, if your parents had it, you have a good
chance of getting it.

Although, not proven by scientific studies, some people testified that certain
food stuffs cause acne. Some pointed the blame on chocolates, peanuts and sodas which they testified to have caused their acne.
